Arni Aromaa (1971) is an industrial designer running his studio in Helsinki since 1996. Besides industrial design his passion lies in sculpting and ceramic art.
He works with a variety of techniques from casting to mold pressing and hand building. In addition to ceramic and glass he uses wood in sculpting. Lately he has been exploring the possibilities to combine ceramics with glass through firing process. The controlled form pressed ceramic parts combined with the molten coloured glass result as expressive wall sculptures.
His works are inspired by nature, but the controlled forms and finish clearly reveals his industrial design background. “Art works as a source of inspiration in my design projects, which in return reflect in my art works”, Aromaa explains the dialogue between the two domains.
Aromaa has taken part in numerous exhibitions and his works can be found in the State art deposit collection as well as in the collection of EMMA museum for modern art. He has been awarded with numerous design awards including the Finnish State Price of Design in 2012 together with his colleague Industrial Designer Sauli Suomela.
